You are often bogged down with all the insurance options at the rental car counter and while it sounds enticing to pay for extra rental car insurance, more often then not you are already covered. Typically your regular car insurance policy will already cover your rental car, as will most major credit cards you pay with. So, more than likely you are simply duplicating coverage you already have. And no one wants to pay twice for the same coverage.
The easiest thing to do is to call your insurance agent and your credit card issuer in advance, because the last place you want to buy car rental insurance, if you actually need it, is at the rental car counter. Be sure to get all the details, so you don’t overlook any of the “fine” print” like whether motorcycle insurance or SUV insurance is included should you plan to rent one of those.
